So the game gives you a tool to combat something, but then it's completely random if it works or not. In the Dolahim fight, I get that you're supposed to use Kisara's break attack to stop his charge, but 9 out of 10 times it just. You have bosses zipping around the screen and doing damage you'd see in a game like Nioh, except you as the player have nowhere near the control or tools to deal with it like you would in that game. The bosses have way too much HP and show how broken a lot of the combat mechanics are. The game is very, very easy on Hard and then the boss fights feel broken. Really just looking to get some other opinions and maybe some advice from players with more Tales experience than me. I never look forward to them, when in any other JRPG it's what I'm most excited for. I'm really enjoying the rest of the game, outside of the really bad subtitling, but the boss fights just make it so exhausting. I haven't played a Tales game since Vesperia, aka a long time ago, but I don't remember it being like this. It's literally an essential mechanic for 90% of combat, just to get taken away for no reason. It makes no sense to me to have a mechanic like this (that also really helps your damage output) just to lock it off during the biggest sponges in the game where the damage really matters. I really dislike how boost strikes (the two person ones) for the most part are locked off during boss fights entirely. Took forever but I won, this was on Normal. The fight with Dolahim I literally let everyone in the party die for the last 10k of his health and slowly chipped away at him with Shionne because the party AI was just so useless. Usually every boss fight ends with me throwing every item at it just to get through. Then as soon as I hit a boss it's like smacking straight into a wall. I have zero trouble with random mob battles on hard for the most part, usually finding it too easy. I've kept up with equipment, managing AI artes/SP, and optimizing my gameplay for the entire game. I'm playing the game on Hard except for boss fights, because the stats on Normal for bosses already feels like a massive spike and on Hard it's very frustrating. I haven't enjoyed about half of them since Balseph, and just left the third city with all six party members. Arise is a great game, don't give up on it because of some poor early balancing. Magic and status are broken in Arise and do a truckload of damage. My final party which I played most of the game with was Kisara, Rinwell, Dohalim, and Shionne. Programming the AI to keep distance from enemies also seemed to help quite a bit. In hindsight I blame this post partly on poor balancing up through the 4th lord and partly on my inability to realize that Alphen's boost strike will stagger any boss out of any attack unless they have an aura around them. Bosses significantly fall off in difficulty around the 5th lord and stay that way up to the end of the normal playthrough. Edit: Since people keep finding this post I'll say this having finished the game.
